Some call it the best feeling in the world. Some call it the only thing that makes life worth living; indeed, there is the phrase, “Love makes the world go round”. Love is surely an inextricable part of the tradition of any culture; so it’s hardly surprising that there are so many “love songs” in existence today.
Today’s love songs are linked to many well-known and popular artists – like Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Katie Melua, Shania Twain, Vanessa Carlton, Tim McGraw, Trisha Yearwood, Luther Vandross, Monica, Beyoncé and the Black Eyed Peas to name a few. You can enjoy listening to them as part of everyday life – to fill the void when you are feeling bored, like when you are walking from one place to another. You can put on one of these songs after you have had a bad day and confide in a fantastic voice and powerful lyrics to help bring you back to your senses. Sometimes people do come across as incredibly silly or pretentious when they try to profess these deep feelings that they have toward someone else; but love songs might as well be thought of as the best attempts at a universally understood language of love. There is no unique kind of “love song”. Some are grounded in dreams and fantasy, like Born to Make You Happy by Britney Spears:
